I started this blog to document my journey and provide some cool educational information for classrooms and individuals.
I could not be more honored than I am right now.
This trip is the cherry on top of a lifetime of hard work and a few chocolate sundaes (with a few nuts thrown in along the way — you know who you are. 🙂 .
Through World View Enterprises, and my wonderful sponsors, I have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to become one of the few untrained humans to fly to the “edge of space.”
It’s some pretty exciting stuff. I didn’t get here from A-Z. Nope. I got here by way of country roads, tobacco fields, a few wars, losing myself, and finding my new normal.
So, with no further ado, here’s a little about me.
I was born here….
A little bit of music about NC – Wagon Wheel – Darius Rucker
Then I grew up and worked very hard. I studied math, science, environmental science, and other nerdy stuff. (I had the glasses to prove it.) I also loved photography, public speaking, and drama which gave me skills to present my work in creative ways.
Obligatory awkward 80’s dress photo here…
(check out those shoulder pad wings and awesome 80’s glasses)
80’s song compilation for your enjoyment – 80s Music Compilation
I later did this… (East Berlin in 1988)
Let’s here some tunes from the era of the Cold War – 99 Red Balloons by Nena
In 2007 I did this… (WHOA! I love the new responsibilities!)
In 2011 I did this … (on the road again)
Of course .. Gotta have Willie Nelson when On The Road Again!
Due to a variety of serious medical issues and military injuries, I did this…
(I’m rocking that cane like a boss)
No worries. I may have been down, but never out.
The song below is about a love lost and falling in love again.
After so much loss in so little time, I lost myself and I had no idea who I was anymore. I needed to fall in love with myself again. It was a hard and incredibly painful path to find a new normal and find the new me. I found the new me by looking for who I used to be. It was hard finding her again. Some of my darkest days was giving up the world I had created for myself and creating a new one.
The transition was one of the most physically and mentally painful things I’ve ever faced. My old life was physically ripped away from me. It’s a lonely process finding a new normal. No one can find *you* except you.
I survived because I truly believe, without a doubt, that when your old life has left you completely broken and alone, reach out, grab a new friend, regenerate your life (maybe change your face, hair, and even the color of your kidneys), run, jump, and say… Geronimo!
(And, when that regeneration no longer fits you, it’s okay, find another one).
I’m retired now and I enjoy life very much!
It was very hard, but I found my new normal and the new me.
Now I do this …
2015 – I love gardening, micro farming, and I love my chickens. I believe in small ideas and small initiatives that bring big changes. I’m also a huge supporter in residential laws which support “Grow food not grass” initiatives.
Also, find some of my environmental ideas on my Twitter or around the internet under #EarthDayEveryday!
I spend a lot of my time experimenting with easier ways to bring environmental changes at the family and individual level.
I have a tight group of friends who accept and respect each other. We are our own tribe, making a difference where we can.
I’ve never been one to take “no” as a first answer. I work hard to find ways to make life a little easier for those who need help and I try to make the world a better place for everyone.
Country song for the ladies who don’t play by the rules!
When needed, I do try to clean up …(No more uniform for me)
But at the end of the day, I love relaxing, and acting a little silly from time to time.
(Yes. I own seven of these grey t-shirts. I love them and they are super durable for an outdoor country girl. – Don’t blame me, I think I learned my fashion sense from Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs.)
After many years of working hard, and never giving up, in 2019, I’m going here…
(This is my all time favorite space dream song — Faith of The Heart – STE – Enterprise Theme Song )
In this … (Isn’t this the cutest little compact ship ever?!)
Never, ever, ever, ever give up on your dreams. No matter how impossible they seem.
Once I go to the edge of space, I will be like this…
All smiles. Happy Dance! All the time!
(Just for fun here’s a link to “Happy” by Pharrel Williams – Happy by Pharrell Williams )
Wishing soft hugs, daily strength, and a good helping of happiness,
